Ice Skating Fun

A fun seasonal treat for Holly was trying out Ice Skating this year. Our town hosted a small, kid friendly 'ice' rink that was actually waxed matts - perfect for a child who has never done this before. We let her watch a bit to decide, she was all for it so Bryan took her out and taught her what to do. After a few laps around with Daddy she went on her own and just took off! Holly loved doing this! We might take her to a neighboring town soon to try out a real ice rink!

While Holly skated Hudson & I enjoyed some park time just outside!

Building Trains

This weekend Holly and Bryan broke out the wooden train set and created a large train. Holly adores playing with trains, creating new track sets and then changing them up -- Bryan too! So, this was right up their alley. They had a great time!

Strawberries

Bryan and Holly spent the afternoon planting some springtime strawberry plants onto her playhouse roof. Last year we did lettuce and strawberries, but after a full season we realized we just don't need quiet so much lettuce... so a full roof of strawberry plants is the result! We are very excited to enjoy the results later in the season!

Nesting Materials

Bryan and Holly stepped out to get some sunshine today and also accomplished a fun and easy project for our fine feathered friends. In a bird book we have they scouted out a couple of different ways to help provide nesting materials to birds. One version is a converted milk carton and the other is a reused net bag from lemons - each filled with loads of fibers, feathers, dried grasses, dryer lint and more. It was like a scavenger hunt to find all the goods they stuffed into the nesting containers which only added to the fun. The results turned out great and we only hope our feathered friends will also find them great during their nesting season.

Slime

This week at our preschool meet up our friend set up a great little science experiment where the kids all made slime. And, it was a hit! So much in fact that Holly could not wait to come home and show Daddy how to make slime. Today they finally sat down and created their own green slime together and had a great time! So easy, entertaining, educational and fun... can't beat that!

Holly's First Roller Skating

Today we joined some friends for a morning out roller skating, Holly's first time. It was a great little session for tot's and their parents - the kids ranged from one to eight years of age, no big kids out there... in fact you can skate with a stroller if you want too! All the music playing was to Disney movies - fun stuff!

She had a lot of fun, tried really hard and enjoyed every moment of her experience! Bryan worked with her slowly around the rink a few times, they did the Hokey Poky and then they skated a bit more. Slowly she grasped the idea and she improved a lot by the end of the session. I think we'll be trying this again very soon!
Doing the Hokey Pokey, they are the back side in the middle.

Lego Fun

This Christmas was a big Lego holiday for Holly.... and Bryan! She had a basic set already and really enjoyed building with it. We took her to the Lego store last month and she had a really nice time selecting a bunch of random Lego pieces to add to her collection. Over the holiday Jingle the Elf left her a Christmas Tree Lego set and a Snowman Lego set - which she had a great time putting together.

Well, much to her excitement she also received a large farm set for Christmas and a tractor set. As well, when Holly did her shopping for Daddy for Christmas she chose a tractor set for Daddy and a car/motorcycle set. So, we have a LOT of new Lego's in our home right now.
Bryan and Holly have been spending time slowly putting together all of her new sets. Bit by bit, her little farm will be assembled for play. She is pretty excited. Yesterday I was out for most of the day but when I came home she could not wait to tell me all about the parts they built while I was gone!

I love that she enjoys Lego's - they are a wonderful toy that offers great skill building opportunities like logic skills, direction following, fine motor, etc. And, I love that Bryan really works Holly through the building vs doing it for her. She is always so very proud of her work when she is done and you can't get a toy that offers much better fun than that!

Water Balloon Fight

This summer Holly got her first real container of water balloons... a huge container! So, whenever the sun appears and it is remotely warm she begs and pleads to have a water balloon fight. Here are some photos of her and Bryan enjoying some water fun. The funny part is that she is popping them as quickly as Bryan can fill them up. I am thinking next year we'll have to designate buckets and pre-make them, then play. She had a blast and that is what matters... oh, and she won!
Okay, so it got a bit one sided.... Poor Daddy!
